Self-pulsation and optical injection locking using multi-electrode DFB lasers

(in English) We are developing a multi-electrode type self-pulsating DFB laser, as a candidate for an all-optical clock recovery device which is indispensable in ultra-high frequency optical time division multiplexing. The device enables the generation of high repetition frequency pulses in the 10-40 GHz range with DC-current drive. The free-running frequency is widely tunable by controlling the operation currents. By introducing a suitable phase shifter inside the DFB grating, optical injection locking operation over 160 GHz, where electrical approaches probably reach an impasse, was successfully demonstrated as well as for the frequency range around 40-80 GHz.
