Ultrasound-modulated optical imaging in biological tissue by use of laser speckle

(in English) Ultrasound modulated optical-tomography of transmission type has been developed by observation of the speckle pattern change with an avalanche photodiode or a CCD camera. Speckle pattern formed by the scattered light at the appropriate distance was changed temporally by propagation of a pulsed ultrasound wave due to optical absorptive distribution. We have matched the detector size with the grain size of speckle pattern to acquire the signal change efficiently. We have observed a one-dimensional temporal signal and a two-dimensional cross-sectional image of an absorptive material embedded in the acoustically matched scattering material and evaluated the two systems.
