Ultra small arrowhead arrayed-waveguide grating using v-bend optical waveguides

(in English) The ultra small arrowhead arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG) using integrated waveguide mirrors in arrayed waveguide has been proposed. The size of this AWG is much smaller than conventional AWGs. The small footprint is useful for low cost and decreases the phase error resulting from the refractive index fluctuation of the arrayed waveguide. The size of the 8-ch, 40 GHz spacing arrowhead AWG fabricated from silica ( = 0.75 %) was only 1.3 mm ×11.6 mm, being 1/10 of size of the conventional AWG. The insertion loss and the adjacent crosstalk were 8.31 dB and -28.3 dB, respectively.
