Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) When an intense optical short pulse is launched into an optical fiber, the pulse spectrum broadens widely due to nonlinear optical effects such as self-phase modulation. This phenomena have been used to generate ultra broadband light, and has various applications, which include multi-wavelength sources for optical communication systems, optical signal processing, white light source for optical component test sets and so on. In this report, we describe our recent research activities on super-continuum generation in normal dispersion fibers, similariton generation in optical fiber amplifiers and semi-octave-band light generation from quasi-mode-locked fiber lasers.
