Implementation and Evaluation of a 10-Gbps Network Interface Card Supporting OC-192c POS and 10GbE Modes

We have been targeting next-generation services of high-resolution video streaming by using our high-speed protocol processing technologies. In our evaluations with a POS OC-48c (2.4Gbps) PCI card, it proved that 1) utilizing long MTU size yielded high-performance protocol processing and 2) using an “adaptive driver” improved the throughput in short-packet transmission. The “adaptive driver” dynamically changes its behavior and controls devices in different manners according to the states of host resources and networks. To meet an increasing demand for larger multiplexed streaming and to verify the effectiveness of the two techniques, we have developed a higher-speed PCI-X NIC supporting OC-192c (10 Gbps) and 10GbE. In this paper, we show our implementation and results of throughput measurements with the new NIC. |
