[Special Talk] Rolling-shutter asynchronous OCC by spatial luminance distribution

(in English) The study outlines rolling-shutter (RS) asynchronous optical camera communication (OCC) by spatial luminance distribution. RS OCC increases the symbol rate to 100 or 1000 times faster than the frame rate of the image sensor. However, error-free transmission, extension of transmission distance, and further improvement of maximum data rate are technical issues to resolve for RS OCC. First, in this study, to achieve error-free transmission using various Android smartphones’ built-in cameras for RS OCC, asynchronous communication based on a cycle pattern of the receiver’s symbols is described. Next, to extend transmission distance for RS OCC, on-off keying (OOK) modulation based on spatial luminance distribution is demonstrated. Moreover, to improve maximum data rate further for RS OCC, quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) based on the spatial luminance distribution is demonstrated.
