情報通信の分野では、学問としての先端的な研究と、その研究成果を実際に利用する技術とが、特に密接に結びついています。このため、基礎・境界ソサイエティが関係する分野の成果は、社会に非常に大きな影響を与えていると思います。 また、COVID-19の感染拡大に対応する手段として、情報通信技術はこれからも社会的に重要な役割を果すと考えられます。 しかしながら、国際的な競争は年々激しくなり、時間的、予算的な制約も厳しくなる一方です。従って、新しい技術や新しい学問分野を切り拓いていくために、我々研究者のより一層の努力が必要となってきています。 基礎・境界ソサイエティから、新しい研究分野を産み出すような学問的発見や、社会にさらに貢献する技術が開発されるように、基礎・境界ソサイエティの皆様の意見を聞きながら、その運営に貢献していきたいと考えています。

［プロフィール］

1982年豊橋技科大・工・情報卒。同年、三重大・工学部助手、1996年三重大・講師。1998年岐阜大・工・応情・講師、助教授、准教授を経て、2010年から岐阜大・工・教授。現在にいたる。現在、工学部副学部長。博士(工学)。本学会シニアメンバー。これまでに、FR誌編集委員会幹事、英文論文誌(EA)編集委員、英文論文誌特集号編集委員長、情報理論研究専門委員会委員長、2013年総合大会現地実行委員会委員長、情報理論とその応用サブソサイエティ長, 和文論文誌(JA)編集委員長、ISITA2020 TPC Chairなどを務めた。

［Statement］

In the research area of information and communications, academic research resultsare closely connected to technologies that utilize the academic results.Hence, ESS's research area results have large impacts on our society and lead todrastic changes in our society. The information and communication technologies will also play an important role in overcoming the pandemic of COVID-19. However, the international research competition in this area and the time and budget constraints of research will be severer year by year. Therefore, we will need much effort to produce new technologies and to open new research areas. I would like to contribute to ESS so that ESS members can obtain academic results that open the new research areas and technologies that innovate our society, according to voices from ESS members.

［Biography］

Hiroshi Kamabe received the B.E. and M.E. degrees from Toyohashi University of Technology in 1982 and 1924, respectively. He received the Ph.D. from Nagoya University in 1996. He joined Mie University in 1982 and Gifu University in 1998. Since 2010, he has been a professor at Gifu University. He is now a vice dean of faculty of engineering. He is a senior member of IEICE. He served as an associate editor of IEICE Trans. Fundamentals(EA), an editor of Fundamentals Review, a chief editor of a special issue of the transaction, a chair of IEICE technical committee of Information Theory, a chair of the local steering committee of 2013 IEICE General Conference at Gifu，the chair of SITA Sub-society, the chief editor of IEICE Trans. Fundamentals(Japanese Edition) and a chair of TPC of ISITA2020.
