［所信表明］

本学会を取り巻く環境は激変しており、技術分野の多様化、複雑化、研究開発環境のグローバル化等が急速に進展しています。数年前には新しい分野といわれていたAI, IoT, Big Data, Power Grid, 自動運転等の分野は既に実用化が進んでいます。これらは一つの技術領域に止まらず広い分野に亘っていますが、こういった動向に対応していくためには、従来の本学会の活動を見直すとともに、他の関係学会とも連携を深める必要があります。また情報が世界中を瞬時に飛び交う時代に、学生や研究者にとって高い魅力が感じられる学会であることが求められており、微力ながら尽力いたします。

［プロフィール］

1972年東京大学工学部電子工学科卒、1974年同大修士。富士通入社。光ファイバ通信の研究開発に従事。1984年同大工学博士。2004年富士通研究所取締役。2006年同フェロー。2017年退職、富士通研究所名誉フェロー。光産業技術振興協会櫻井健二郎氏記念賞受賞。本学会：業績賞受賞、調査理事、会計理事、監事、副会長、フェロー。IEEE：ライフフェロー, フォトニックソサエティ会長等の活動に参加。

［Statement］

As is known, the environment surrounding IEICE is drastically changing, and our technology areas are rapidly developing with increased diversity, complexity and globalization. Technologies like AI, IoT, big data, power-grid and automatic driving which were said new areas a few years ago are already in practical development stages. Those technologies are covering wide ranges beyond conventional areas of IEICE. To cope with those trends IEICE is requested to reconsider our activities, and to strengthen the collaboration with other relating academic societies. In the age when information is spreading worldwide in an instant, IEICE is requested to be an attractive institute for students and researchers. I will do my best.

［Biography］

Hideo Kuwahara received bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1972, 1974 and 1984, respectively. Entered Fujitsu in 1974, and engaged in R&D of optical fiber communication systems. In Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd, Member of the Board in 2004, Fellow in 2006, and Honorary Fellow in 2017. He is a recipient of OITDA Kenjiro Sakurai Memorial Prize. In the IEICE, he is a Fellow and recipient of Achievement Award, and served as a Member of the Boards, Auditor, and Vice President. In the IEEE, he is a Life Fellow, and served as President of Photonics Society, Fellow Committee member, Chair of IEEE Japan Council Awards Committee, and other activities.
