ICTの社会への影響力は、この10年で大きく変わりました。例えば、世界のトップ50社の1/3をICT企業が占めるに至っています。ICTは基盤技術として人々の生活を支えるだけでなく、社会の仕組みを根底から変えるものであることも分かってきました。今こそ、ICTと社会の関係を捉えなおし、研究開発の新しいシナリオを描くことが大切ですが、それは専門を極めた研究者・技術者にとっても難しいことです。研究領域を超える連携、大学・企業・行政の連携、営利・非営利活動の連携、文化・言語を超える国際連携など、多様な連携が求められています。電子情報通信学会は、幸いにもICTに関わる様々な研究分野が集まり、大学・企業の研究者・技術者が集う場です。学会内ではソサイエティを超える交流や産学連携をこれまで以上に推進すると共に、本会の活動を国の内外にオープンにし、奔放で軽やかな交流が生まれるよう、微力ながら貢献したいと思います。

［プロフィール］

私は企業（NTT）で研究実用化に15年間携わり、その後、京都大学工学研究科と情報学研究科で26年間、今年からは早稲田大学創造理工学部で教育研究を担当しています。その間、分野連携、国際連携、社会連携を様々に経験しました。国内では、本会のソサイエティ会長（情報・システム）や副会長、情報処理学会・人工知能学会・社会情報学会の理事、IPA未踏ソフトウェアやJSTさきがけの総括、日本学術会議の会員などを経験しています。また海外では、欧州、米国、中国の7つの大学の客員教授や、人工知能の新領域（マルチエージェントシステム）を立ち上げその研究財団の理事を経験しました。研究面では情報技術の社会実装プロジェクトを20年間推進し、教育面では領域横断の京都大学社会情報学専攻やデザインスクールの発足に力を尽くしました。

［Statement］

The power of information and communication technology (ICT) in influencing human society has increased dramatically in the last decade. For example, one-third of the world’s top 50 enterprises are ICT companies. Apart from being a basic technology that improves daily life, ICT also changes the societal structure entirely. Therefore, it serves to be the right time to redesign the relationship between ICT and the human society to draw a new R&D scenario. However, this appears to be difficult if executed by a single research domain in spite of the researchers/engineers being experts. Therefore, we need an integration of different research domains, university-industry-government collaborations, associations for profit-nonprofit activities, and international collaborations consisting of various cultures and languages. Fortunately, the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) includes different research areas that cover all the ICT domains, and serves as an arena for researchers/engineers to gather in various universities/companies. I hope to boost the collaboration among the IEICE societies, and make our activities transparent globally to enable free and wild exchanges of ideas.

［Biography］

I was a research scientist at NTT Laboratories for 15 years, and a professor at Kyoto University for 26 years, and currently, since April, work for Waseda University. I have witnessed various interdisciplinary, international, and university-industry-government collaborations. I held the following positions when in Japan: President of the IEICE-ISS, Vice President of the IEICE, board member of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI), and the Society of Socio-Informatics (SSI), supervisor of IPA Exploratory Software Project and JST PRESTO, and member of the Science Council of Japan (SCJ). Globally, I was a visiting/invited professor of seven universities across Europe, US, and China, and a board member of an international foundation that successfully created a new area in artificial intelligence (in terms of multiagent systems). I spend two decades for conducting real-world, field-oriented research projects, and for education, I contributed toward the establishment of the Department of Social Informatics and the Design School in Kyoto University.
