情報通信技術は現代社会を支える大きな柱の一つであり，人々の生活をより良くしていくために今後もその発展が期待されています．一方，技術の成熟による従来からのアプローチの限界や産業界を取り巻く環境の変化もあって，将来の方向性はますます見えにくくなってきています．このような中，さまざまな立場，知識を有する人が集まる本会は，新しい方向性を見出していく場となっていくことが役割の一つだと感じています．本会が100年間育んできた良いところは維持しつつ，分野をまたがってオープンな議論ができ，新しい価値を生み出す魅力的な場となるよう尽力したいと思います．

［プロフィール］

平成2年東京工業大学大学院電気・電子工学専攻修士課程修了．同年，株式会社富士通研究所に入社．以来，半導体レーザを中心とした光通信用の光半導体デバイスの研究開発に従事．平成12〜13年，独ハインリッヒ・ヘルツ研究所客員研究員．現在，同社フォトニクス研究センターシニアディレクター．平成8年度本会学術奨励賞受賞．平成29年度レーザ・量子エレクトロニクス研究専門委員会委員長，エレクトロニクスソサイエティフォトニクス領域委員会副委員長．

［Statement］

Information and communication technology is one of important bases to support current society and its continuous developments in future is also hoped to improve quality of life. On the other hand, future direction of these fields becomes unclear nowadays, due to the limitation of conventional approaches by maturing technology as well as change of the environment surrounding industries. I think that to be a place for finding a new direction is one important role of IEICE, where various people with different positions and knowledges is gathering. I will do my best to make IEICE be an attractive place for creating new valuables through open discussion with people in other fields while keeping the good practices cultivated in 100 years.

［Biography］

Tsuyoshi Yamamoto received the B. E. and M.E. degrees from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 1988 and 1990, respectively. In 1990, he joined Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., Atsugi, Japan, where he has been engaging in research and development of optical semiconductor devices for optical communication. From October 2000 to October 2001, he was a Guest Scientist at the Heinrich-Herz-Institut für Nachrichtentechnik, Berlin, Germany. Currently, he is a senior director of Photonics research center in Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. He received the Young Researcher’s Award from the IEICE in 1997. He was the Chair of Technical Committee on Lasers and Quantum Electronics and the Vice Chair of Photonics Related Technologies Committee Group in IEICE-ES in 2017.
