【Statement】
Current situation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT) is very severe, which might slow down Japanese activity in the global market. IEICE is an organization, I think, to stimulate the cutting edge activities in the ICT and actually conducting a log of events for such purposes. As for the IEICE activity, although it has currently about 30,000 members, only 10% is actively present new technical achievements, and the rest (90%) is, unfortunately, silent. Of course, it is very important to satisfy such 90% of the members. The main purpose of the silent members is to obtain up to date technical information, to understand futures of each technology, and to make their human communication links much tighter. Transactions and some other journals in IEICE would be the key components for such people and I would like to work, as the Director, Journal and Transactions, to satisfy such silent majority, as well as to increase the ratio of active members of the IEICE.
