The sustainable development of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) requires strengthened international collaboration and broader participation across diverse membership groups. Overseas membership has declined significantly from its peak of 4,000 to 800, and Japan’s continuing population decrease further challenges the long-term stability of our member base. Under these circumstances, traditional approaches alone are no longer sufficient. As a candidate for Director of Planning, I will focus on three priorities: rebuilding our international networks, promoting participation among young researchers and industry engineers, and enhancing the value of IEICE through stronger integration of conferences and publications.
As General Chair of the 2024 General Conference, I launched the GlobalNet Workshop to foster international exchanges among participants from diverse backgrounds. I also contributed to the multilingual distribution of our five English-language journals in sixteen languages through the Ad-hoc Committee on Multilingualization, strengthening the Society’s global reach. These experiences provide a solid foundation for advancing international engagement and broadening the scope of IEICE activities.
Looking ahead, I aim to establish a new IEICE model that integrates conferences, journals, and magazines to advance research dissemination, education, and international collaboration in a unified manner. By creating an environment in which researchers, engineers, and students from around the world can participate continuously and meaningfully, I will work to ensure that the value of IEICE is carried forward to the next generation. As Director of Planning, I am committed to implementing effective and achievable initiatives that contribute to the future growth of our Society.
