編集理事は、編集方針の企画、編集委員会の統括、査読体制の健全性確保、出版物の品質保持を担う中心的役割であり、本会の学術出版活動をさらに発展させ、論文誌の価値と国際的存在感を高めることが私の使命と考えている。私は、これまで国内外の研究機関や学会と連携し、多様な共同研究を通じて国際的視野を培ってきている。この経験を活かし、論文誌の可視性と国際到達性を強化し、研究者が積極的に投稿したくなる魅力ある媒体へと成長させたいと考えている。また、国際的に注目される研究領域や学際的テーマを適切に取り込み、インパクトファクターをはじめとする学術的評価指標の着実な向上につなげる。編集品質を維持しつつ、世界の研究者に選ばれる発表の場としての価値を高め、学会の出版基盤の強化と中長期的発展に貢献する所存である。編集委員会等と連携し、学会全体の出版活動を俯瞰しながら、中長期的成長に資する方向性を丁寧に検討したいと考える。本職務を通して、学術コミュニティの信頼を高める運営に貢献できれば幸いである。
1991年東京大学理学部卒。1994年東京大学大学院工学系研究科修士課程修了。日本IBM・米国IBMテキサスオースチン・東京基礎研究所などを経て、2005年、米プリンストン大学大学院コンピュータサイエンス学科にて修士号および博士学位取得。現在，東京大学大学院工学系研究科教授。東京大学総長特任補佐兼任、東京大学次世代サイバーインフラ連携研究機構長兼任。電子情報通信学会通信ソサイエティ会長、NV/NS/RISING研究専門委員会委員長などを歴任。電子情報通信学会業績賞、ネットワークシステム研究専門委員会活動功労賞、通信ソサイエティ功労顕彰状、ドコモ・モバイルサイエンス賞 （先端技術部門）日本ITU協会賞国際活動奨励賞（功績賞分野）など受賞多数。日本学術会議連携委員。XGモバイル推進フォーラム（XGMF）共同代表、スペースICT推進フォーラム5G/Beyond5G連携技術分科会委員長、総務省 地域情報化アドバイザー、情報通信行政・郵政行政審議会・電気通信事業部会・市場検証委員会委員など政府研究会委員多数。政府委託研究全体統括、東京大学社会連携講座、産学共同研究など、複数の産学連携プロジェクトのリーダーを務める。
The Editorial Director plays a central role in shaping editorial policies, overseeing editorial committees, ensuring the soundness of the peer-review process, and maintaining the quality of the Society’s publications. I regard it as my mission to further advance the academic publishing activities of the Institute and to enhance the value and international presence of its journals. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with a wide range of research institutes and academic societies both in Japan and abroad, cultivating a broad international perspective through diverse joint research activities. Leveraging this experience, I aim to strengthen the visibility and global reach of our journals and to develop them into attractive publication venues that researchers worldwide will actively choose for disseminating their work. I also intend to appropriately incorporate internationally recognized research domains and interdisciplinary themes, thereby contributing to steady improvements in academic evaluation metrics, including impact factor. While maintaining high editorial quality, I hope to elevate the value of our journals as trusted platforms for global researchers and to contribute to the long-term development of the Society’s publication foundation. By working closely with editorial committees and related bodies, I will take a comprehensive view of the Society’s publishing activities and carefully examine directions that support sustainable growth. Through these efforts, I aspire to contribute to an editorial operation that strengthens trust within the academic community.
Akihiro Nakao received his B.S. in Science from the University of Tokyo in 1991 and his M.S. in Engineering from the Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, in 1994. After working at IBM Japan, IBM Texas Austin, and the IBM Tokyo Research Laboratory, he received both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Princeton University in 2005. He is currently a Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. He concurrently serves as Special Advisor to the President of the University of Tokyo and as Director of the Collaborative Research Organization for Next-Generation Cyber Infrastructure. He has served as President of the IEICE Communications Society and as Chair of the NV/NS/RISING Technical Committees. His honors include the IEICE Achievement Award, Distinguished Service Award from the Network Systems Technical Committee, IEICE Communications Society Contribution Award, NTT Docomo Mobile Science Award (Advanced Technology Category), and the ITU Association of Japan Encouragement Award (International Activity Division), among many others. He is a member of the Science Council of Japan and serves in leadership roles such as Co-Chair of the XG Mobile Forum (XGMF), Chair of the Space ICT Forum 5G/Beyond-5G Technologies Subcommittee, Adviser for Regional Informatization for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and member of various governmental councils and committees including the Information and Communications Council and related market evaluation committees. He also leads multiple industry-academia collaborative projects, including government-commissioned R&D programs, corporate partnerships, and social cooperation programs at the University of Tokyo.
