IEICE has contributed to the advancement of the information and communication field for more than a century. However, as research domains diversify and information dissemination methods rapidly evolve, we increasingly feel a sense of crisis that the traditional role and significance of academic societies may be fading. In an era where new technologies such as generative AI, autonomous driving, and advanced medical systems are progressing at unprecedented speed, simply providing opportunities for interpersonal connection is no longer sufficient for an academic society to fulfill its mission. What is now required is a framework that both preserves and further develops the intrinsic academic value of our field, while also meeting the expectations of diverse stakeholders―including industry, researchers, and society at large. Together with all of you, I hope to explore and shape what such a renewed academic society should look like as we move forward into the future.
