AI化された種々の技術による産業革命はもはや確実な大波となり社会のあらゆる場面に浸透を始めています。AIは複合的な技術スタック上に成り立つ技術であり、情報・通信技術、並びに電子技術が基礎になります。まさにこれらをスコープとする本会にとって、会員一人一人が生み出す新たな着想が日々社会に実装され、その結果を極めて身近に感じられるとても面白い時代です。この流れの中で当会がその存在感を発揮し、社会から幅広く認知されていくために必要なのは、個別要素技術分野の垣根を超えた交流を深め、孤立した点の活動を面としてつなぎ合わせることで、複合技術たるAIを支える専門家が集う場になることだと思います。要素技術を磨く研究会に加え、横断する交流の機会を大会に加えて強化する必要があるのではないでしょうか？また、技術の社会実装可能性を示すためには、同時に学会自体の活動のAIによる高度化を進めなくてはいけません。学会運営・組織強化担当として、こうした活動を立ち上げ、それを着実に根付かせるのに貢献できればと思います。結果として日本でAIスタックを支える技術や集団と言えばIEICEであると広く認知されることを目指します。
1993年名古屋大学大学院電子情報工学博士課程修了。同年NEC入社。デジタル放送方針の研究開発を皮切りに、メディア認識、ICTアーキテクチャ、データマイニングと活動を広げ、研究戦略企画担当を経て、情報メディア研所長、情報ナレッジ研所長、データサイエンス研所長など人工知能関連の研究活動を幅広く統括。1990年代よりISO/IEC標準化に長らく携わっている。2018年からは、研究部門に加えて、事業統括・製品開発統括としてDX事業を担当しており、2020年より同社執行役員。現在同社において、AI Technology Officerとして、事業統括、研究統括、社内業務改革を統括する。
電子情報通信学会調査理事、日本オペレーションリサーチ学会(ORSJ)副会長、総務省技術戦略委員、日本工業標準調査会委員、NEDO技術委員他多数歴任。映像情報メディア学会丹羽高柳論文賞、経済産業省産業技術環境局長表彰、情報処理学会標準化功績賞他多数の受賞歴。ORSJフェロー、博士（工学）
The industrial revolution driven by AI is now an undeniable wave. AI technology is built upon a complex technological stack, with information and communication technologies, as well as electronics, forming its foundation. For our society, which encompasses these fields, it is an exciting era where the innovative ideas generated by each member are being implemented, allowing us to feel its tangible impacts in society. To ensure that our organization is widely recognized and demonstrates its presence in this evolving landscape, I believe it is essential to deepen exchanges that transcend the boundaries of each technical field. By connecting isolated activities into lines and then into planes, we can become a collective of experts supporting the multifaceted nature of AI. We need to design additional opportunities across technical committees as well as individual technical discussions on the committee. To demonstrate our implementation capabilities, we must also advance the sophistication of both the front- and back-office operations of our society through AI. As the person responsible for organizational management and strengthening, I am committed to initiating and firmly establishing such community activities. Ultimately, I aim for IEICE to be widely recognized as the group and technology supporting the AI stack in Japan.
Akio Yamada received his Ph.D. from the Department of Electronic Information, Nagoya University in 1993. He joined NEC in the same year and started his career on R&D of digital broadcasting system. He has expanded his activities such as media recognition, ICT architecture, data mining and so on. After serving as a research strategy officer, he was assigned Head of various research laboratories (Senior Director) such as Information Media Res. Labs., Information Knowledge Res. Labs., and Data Science Res. Labs. Through the entire years working in corporate research organizations, he has involved in ISO/IEC standardization and served various leading positions, such as a project editor. Since 2018, he has moved to a new position, VP on DX business, and since 2020, has served as SVP and Head of Central Research Laboratories. Currently he is assigned as Corporate SVP & Head of AI Technology Service Business Division and corporate officer on all AI related activities. He had experienced various positions, Director of the IEICE, VP of ORSJ, member of the MIC Technical Strategy Committee, member of the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee, and NEDO Technical Committee member, and others. He has received numerous awards, including the Niwa-Takayanagi Best Paper Award from ITE, the Director-General’s Award from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Standardization Achievement Award from IPSJ. He is a Fellow member of ORSJ.
