電子情報通信の技術は1世紀以上にわたり常に私たちの生活に変革をもたらしてきましたが、近年では一般の人々も日々新しい技術の最新の情報に触れ、その影響は社会のさまざまな分野に広がって重要性を増しており、その進歩には大きな期待と関心が寄せられています。さらに、異なる学問分野の専門家同士の協力の必要性も高まっています。このような状況を踏まえると、本会の活動にも変革が求められていることは明らかです。例えば出版活動は、これまでも学会の最も基本的な機能の一つとして常にその役割を果たしてきましたが、近年では、様々な媒体による情報の氾濫の中で、専門家の手により編集された信頼に足る良質の情報源の潜在的なニーズと果たすべき役割はますます増大していると考えられます。このような時代の要請に応えるためには、新しい技術を積極的に活用しつつ、既成概念にとらわれない創造的かつ革新的な取り組みが求められます。幸いにも諸先輩方の努力により、これまでにも数々の試みが行われてきました。それらを踏まえつつ、編集理事として本会の活動に貢献できれば幸いです。
1990年東大・工・電子卒、1995年東大院・工学系研究科博士課程修了。博士(工学)。同年NTTに入社。パターン認識・メディア理解・メディア探索・生体情報処理の研究に従事。現在、同社フェロー。この間、2002年ケンブリッジ大学 Visiting Scholar、2008年より国立情報学研究所客員教授、2015年〜2020年東大院・情報理工学系研究科客員教授、2023年より阪大・ヒューマンメタバース疾患研究拠点招へい教授。2019年本会フェロー。2021年本会情報・システムソサイエティ会長。2004年〜2006年会誌編集委員D分野副主査、2008年〜2013年和文論文誌編集委員。2024年画像の認識・理解シンポジウム実行委員長。
For over a century, electronics, information, and communication technologies have been transforming our lives. Particularly in recent years, the public is kept abreast of the latest developments in new technologies on a daily basis, and their impact is becoming increasingly pervasive and significant across a range of societal sectors. Accordingly, there is a high level of anticipation and expectation surrounding these developments. Furthermore, there is an increasing need for collaboration between experts in different academic fields. In light of these developments, it is clear that transformations are required even in the activities of the IEICE. For instance, our publishing activities have consistently fulfilled their role as one of the most fundamental functions of an academic society. However, in recent years, amid the deluge of information, there is an increasing need for reliable sources of high-quality information compiled by experts. To meet these demands, we must embrace new technologies and be creative and innovative without being constrained by preconceived ideas. Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of our predecessors, we have been able to make numerous attempts. Building on these efforts, it would be my pleasure if I could contribute to the activities of the IEICE as a Director, Editorial and Publishing Affairs.
Kunio Kashino graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1990, completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo and received Ph.D. degree in 1995. In the same year, he joined NTT Corporation and engaged in research on pattern recognition, media understanding, media search, and biological information processing. He is currently an NTT Fellow. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of Cambridge in 2002; Visiting Professor at National Institute of Informatics since 2008; Visiting Professor at Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo from 2015 to 2020; and Guest Professor, Premium Research Institute for Human Metaverse Medicine, Osaka University since 2023. He is an IEICE Fellow since 2019. For IEICE, he was the President of Information and Systems Society (ISS) in 2021; an Associate Editor of J. IEICE from 2004 to 2006 and IEICE Trans. Inf. & Syst. (Japanese Edition) from 2008 to 2013; and the General Chair of MIRU in 2024.
