電子情報通信に関係する技術はわれわれの想像を超えて伸び続けています。この流れについていくためには、企業や大学の枠を超えて情報交換していくことが非常に重要です。このような状況の中で、これまでエレクトロニクスソサイエティが果たしてきた役割は非常に大きいと認識しております。私は過去にLQEとPICS研究会の委員長、和文論文誌の編集委員長、論文担当の副会長として運営に携わってきましたが、関係する委員の皆様の熱意がこれまでの活動を支えてきたと認識しています。一方で、それに伴う負荷が多いとも思いますので効率的な運営が重要だと考えております。
会員減の問題に関しては、学生員は、社会人になると退会される方が多いと思いますので、就職後も電子情報通信分野に関わる仕事をしていただくことが重要です。したがって、学会活動を通じてこの分野への興味を持っていただくことが重要ですので、学会発表や論文執筆の際に有益な経験が積めるようにしていきたいと思います。企業会員は、時間も限られた中で、効率的に情報が得られることが重要だと考えておりますので、ウェビナー等を活用し、会員がより効果的に交流できるよう取り組みたいと思っております。
1986年広島大学工学部第２類卒業。1988年同大学大学院工学研究科材料工学専攻修士課程修了。2008年東京工業大学大学院 物理情報システム創造専攻 博士課程後期修了。1988年日本電信電話株式会社に入社以来、光半導体デバイスの研究開発に従事。現在、NTT先端集積デバイス研究所フェロー。本会においては、LQE, PICS研究専門委員会委員長、エレクトロニクスソサイエティ副会長（編集出版担当）。応用物理学会 光・電子集積技術業績賞（林巌雄賞）、本会エレクトロニクスソサイエティ賞、光協会櫻井健二郎氏記念賞、IEEE Photonics Society William Streifer Scientific Achievement Awardなどを受賞。IEEE Photonics Society理事、応用物理学会理事などを務める。IEEE, Opticaフェロー。
Electronic information and communication technologies are growing faster than we can imagine. To keep up with the global trend, it is very important to exchange information beyond the boundaries of companies and universities. In this context, I think that the role of IEICE Electronics Society has been very significant. In the past, I was Chairman of the LQE and PICS Study Groups, Editor-in-Chief of the Japanese-language journal, and Vice President in charge of journal, and I recognize that the enthusiasm of the members involved has supported the activities to date. On the other hand, I also think that there is a lot of work involved, so I think that efficient management is important.
Regarding the issue of declining membership, we believe that many student members will leave our society when they graduate the university, so it is important that they work in our fields when they graduate the university. It is therefore important that they develop an interest in the field through conference activities so that they can gain useful experience in conference presentations and paper writing. We believe that it is important for corporate members to be able to obtain effective information efficiently, given the limited time available to them, so we would like to use webinars and other means to enable members to interact more effectively with each other.
Shinji Matsuo received the B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from Hiroshima University, Hiroshima, Japan, in 1986 and 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in electronics and applied physics from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 2008. Since 1988, he has been researching photonic integrated circuits using compound semiconductors at NTT Laboratories, Atsugi.
He received the Izuo Hayashi Award from the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), Electronics Society Award from Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, Japan (IEICE), Kenjiro Sakurai Memorial Prize from Optoelectronics Industry and Technology Development Association (OITDA), and IEEE Photonics Society William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award. He is a Fellow of IEEE and Optica.
