先人たちの叡智と不断の努力によって、情報通信技術（ICT）は経済発展を支える不可欠なものとなりました。今後、環境保護との共生など新たなる価値を創造するため、研究者をはじめとする様々なステークホルダーとの相互交流の場としての本会の重要性は一層高まるものと思います。それに応えるためには、社会を構成する技術のソフトウェア化（サービス化）が進展する中で、成長領域・分野との連携、柔軟な組織運営の促進が重要であると考えます。また、数理データサイエンス・AI教育の推進が行われている中で、教育現場・地域社会と連携して次世代を担う若い世代への啓発・教育への貢献が一層重要となってくると考えます。ICTというデジタル技術の中核を担う本会が、自らのDX化（自己変革）を進め、小子化・会員数の漸減という環境下の中にあっても、社会の要請に応えつつ、本会を未来にむけて持続可能なものにするため、微力ながら尽力していきたいと思います。
1986年北海道大学工学部電子工学科卒。1988年同大学大学院工学研究科電子工学専攻修士課程修了。博士（工学）。同年、日本電信電話株式会社入社。以後、光エレクトロニクス研究所、NTTエレクトロニクス社（現NTTイノベーティブデバイス社）、アクセスサービスシステム研究所勤務。2010-2013年北海道大学大学院情報科学研究科NTT連携講座客員教授。2014年より公立千歳科学技術大学理工学部電子光工学科教授。半導体光集積回路、通信用高速光デバイス、アクセス系光ネットワークシステムなどの研究開発・商用化に従事。本会においては、通信ソサイエティ論文賞を受賞。東京支部会計幹事、マイクロ波・ミリ波フォトニクス研究専門委員会委員長、フォトニクス技術領域委員会委員長を歴任。
Thanks to the wisdom and constant efforts of our predecessors, information and communication technology (ICT) has become an essential part of supporting economic development. In the future, in order to create new value such as coexistence with environmental protection, I believe that the importance of this association as a place for mutual exchange with various stakeholders, including researchers, will increase even further. As the technologies that make up society are increasingly converted into software services, we believe that in order to respond to this trend, it is important to collaborate with growth areas and fields and promote flexible organizational management. In addition, as mathematical data science and AI education are being promoted, we believe that it will become even more important to collaborate with educational side and local communities to educate the young generation who will lead the next generation. Even in an environment where the population is becoming smaller, I would like to contribute to respond to the demands of society and make IEICE be sustainable for the future.
NAOTO YOSHIMOTO received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electronics from Hokkaido University, Japan, in 1986, 1988, and 2003, respectively. He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation in 1988, he has worked at NTT Opto-electronics Laboratories, NTT Electronics, and Access Network Service Systems Laboratories. He has been engaged in research and development of optical devices for communications and optical access network systems. From 2010 to 2013, he was a visiting professor at the NTT Collaborative Course at the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University. Since 2014, he has been a professor at Chitose Institute of Science and Technology, Japan.
