お客様は神様という言葉があります。学会にとってお客様は会員の皆様ということになろうかと思います。運営はボランティアをベースとしているので、お客様である会員の中からご協力を得て実現しているものです。会員の皆様へレベルの高いサービスを提供することが重要であることは論を待ちませんが、それに加えて運営に関わっていただく皆様の満足度にも目を向ける必要があると考えています。また、学会は産業界、大学、研究機関に属される会員の皆様の研究・教育のための場を提供するという役割を担っていますが、産業・教育の規模の動向とかけ離れた発展を学会のみが続けるということは困難です。各界の皆様の状況にあわせた効率的な運営がこれまで以上に求められていると思います。例えば、研究会の開催回数といった数値ではなく、参加される皆様の満足度の大きさをより追求するといった考え方です。エレクトロニクスは身近になりすぎて若い世代にとって見えづらくなっているような印象があります。STEM教育についても貢献していきたいと思っています。幅広い世代の会員の皆さんにとって、運営に参加することが楽しくなるようなソサイエティを作り上げていきたいと思います。
1992年京都大学工学部電子工学科卒。1994年同大学大学院工学研究科電子工学専攻修士課程修了。松下電器産業生産技術研究所勤務を経て、1997年京都大学大学院工学研究科電子通信工学専攻博士後期課程修了。同年同大学ベンチャービジネスラボラトリー特別研究員。1998年郵政省通信総合研究所（現情報通信研究機構）入所。2004年カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校客員研究員。2015年より早稲田大学理工学術院基幹理工学部電子物理システム学科教授。光変調技術、マイクロ波フォトニクスなどに従事。著書、高速光精度光変調の理論と実際、フォトニクスの基礎、Wired and Wireless Seamless Access Systems for Public Infrastructure、Electro-optic Modulation for Photonic Networksなど。IEEEフェロー(2013年)。本会においては、エレクトロニクスソサイエティレター論文賞、エレクトロニクスソサイエティ賞を受賞。エレクトロニクスソサイエティ総務幹事、マイクロ波・ミリ波フォトニクス研究専門委員会委員長、フォトニクス技術領域委員会委員長を歴任し、現在、MWP国内委員会委員長。光協会櫻井健二郎氏記念賞、文部科学大臣表彰科学技術賞、IEC1906賞、経済産業省産業標準化事業表彰産業技術環境局長賞などを受賞。IEEE Photonics Society理事、APT Wireless Group 固定無線・地上設置レーダータスクグループ議長などを務める。
The Society’s mission is satisfaction of its members. The Society is supported by volunteers from the members. There is no doubt that it is important to provide a high level of service to the members, but we also need to pay attention to the satisfaction of those who are involved in the management of the Society. The Society offers places for research and education to the members from industry, universities, and research institutes, but it is difficult for the Society alone to maintain continuous growth that is far removed from trends in the scale of industry and education. I believe that more efficient management is required than ever in accordance with the circumstances of the members from various fields. For example, we should not focus on the number of workshops held, but rather on the level of satisfaction of the participants. I have the impression that electronics has become too familiar and less visible to the younger generation, and I would like to contribute to STEM education as well. Let’s make the Society fun to participate in for members of all ages.
TETSUYA KAWANISHI received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electronics from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1992, 1994, and 1997, respectively. From 1994 to 1995, he was with the Production Engineering Laboratory, Panasonic. In 1997, he was with the Venture Business Laboratory, Kyoto University, where he was engaged in research on electromagnetic scattering and near-field optics. In 1998, he joined the Communications Research Laboratory, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (now the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology), Tokyo, Japan. In 2004, he was a Visiting Scholar with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California at San Diego. Since April 2015, he has been a Professor with Waseda University, Tokyo. He is an IEEE fellow. His current research interests include high-speed optical modulators and RF photonics.
