The ISS currently has about 10,000 members and is the largest society in the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, which has about 26,000 members.
The role of this Society is to provide members with opportunities for research presentations and exchanges, and to contribute to the sustainable development of the field of information technology, which is an important social infrastructure, as well as solving various problems in the information society. As the social environment surrounding academic research and the positioning of information technology are changing dramatically, we will continue to play a role as an organization to sustainably support the activities of ISS members in this academic field. In fiscal year 2019, we will develop activities with an emphasis on the following content.

(1) Converting English Journal into an Open Access Journal and Improving the Value of Journals
Thesis is the final result of academic research, and the value of research results is produced by making the content known to as many people as possible. Therefore, it should be a journal that can be read by many people after the gathering of a large number of high-quality submitted papers and through appropriate peer review. The English Journal (ED) was reborn as a complete open access journal from January 2020. Already in January 2017, prior to other societies, we had begun to make all papers, including past published papers, available. As a result, the number of accesses to the paper database has increased significantly, and the impact factor and h-index have also improved. In order to maintain open access, it is essential to increase the number of submissions, and we are considering measures to do so.

(2) Fully Digitized Technical Report and Activation of Conference
From fiscal year 2018, technical reports were completely digitized, and participation fees were charged. As a result, these materials can be downloaded electronically, and annual registration for all of the conference packages of the Society is available at a low fee. Furthermore, in the ISS field, the pursuit of fundamental academics and the linkage with industrial applications are more important than ever. Therefore, a sponsorship system was introduced as a measure to revitalize the conference while deepening cooperation with companies. We would appreciate it if you could use it to revitalize each academic field, such as special events at the conference, internationalization by sponsoring or co-hosting international conferences.

(3) General Conference as a Place for Interdisciplinary Exchange and Younger Development, FIT
The General Conference held in March every year and the FIT held in September are effective for exchanging opinions among researchers in a wide range of information fields and for presenting student research. There were over 400 presentations at the 2018 General Conference or FIT. The student poster session at the General Conference is a great success, and there are more than 200 presentations every year. In addition, exchange programs such as a welcome party across the Society are also being implemented as a place for the exchange of information with researchers from other fields and businesspeople.

(4) ISS Society Journal as a Familiar Information Journal
The academic fields covered by the ISS have a very broad base, and 26 Technical Committees are currently active. Under such circumstances, the Society Journal serves as a familiar information journal that allows many members to know the activities of the entire ISS. While continuing and enhancing the current journal, we will look for forms that are more in line with the times.

As described above, ISS is promoting various initiatives aimed at improving member services. The management policy and specific measures of the ISS are decided after discussions among the President, incoming President, the 4 Vice Presidents, 8 Secretaries, the Steering Committee consisting of the chairpersons of the Editorial Committees of the Japanese journal, English journal and the Society Journal and the expanded Steering Committee including the chairpersons of the Technical Committees. From fiscal year 2019, the number of Secretaries in charge of the Technical Conference has been increased from two to four, and the system has been strengthened so that it can sufficiently respond to the various activities of the ISS.

We would like to express these wonderful results through ISS activities and share them with many members. Also, if you have any opinions on our management, we would appreciate it if you could send us feedback.

TOP About ISS Message from ISS President 2019 Message from ISS President 2019 President Eisaku Maeda 2019 Pres […]

["post-71","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
