Even though image sensing with large number of image sensors is very effective in collecting information throughout the very wide area, how to transfer and process the huge amount of data will be a critical issue as the number of sensors increases. As smart image sensors are capable of reducing the volume of data on sensor level, it is considered to be one of the feasible solutions to use smart sensors as an image acquisition devices to save the network and system resources simultaneously. In this paper, a prototype sensor node developed for smart sensor networking interface is presented along with dynamic rate control schemes using spatially variant smart image sensors for efficient image transmission. |
