Distinguished Educational Practitioners Award
Development and Spread of AI Solution Architect Training Program

Dr. Hiroyoshi Miwa graduated from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, at the University of Tokyo in 1992, and joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, where he worked in the Research Laboratories. Since then, he has been engaged in the research and development of information communication networks from the viewpoint of mathematical science and moved to Kwansei Gakuin University in 2002. He is currently a professor at the School of Engineering, and Vice President of the university, Director of the Organization for Information Strategies, and AI Solution Architect Training Program Project Leader. At the university, Dr. Miwa conducts education and research on discrete mathematics, optimization algorithms, and their applications from the perspectives of theory and practice.
Due to recent technological innovations centered on artificial intelligence (AI), the world is entering a historical turning point. What is required in society today and in the future is human resources who can understand and utilize AI, data science and related technologies, across both humanities and sciences, and educational programs to foster such human resources are indispensable. Dr. Miwa has been leading the development of an "AI Solution Architect Training Program" at his university for several years and started the AI Solution Architect Training Program at his university in the 2019 academic year. The program has been widely offered not only within the university but also outside the university, and has so far produced a large number of AI-based human resources.
In addition to presentations in publications and research groups, Dr. Miwa has given numerous lectures at the request of companies, educational institutions, and local governments, and is actively engaged in educational activities to foster human resources for AI applications. The results of this program have been highly evaluated and introduced at more than 100 companies in various industries and other universities through strict checks by each organization, including from the viewpoint of cost-effectiveness, and have already produced a large ripple effect.
The development, introduction, achievements, and educational activities of the AI Solution Architect Training Program led by Dr. Miwa are outstanding. Our Society is honored that a member of the Society is promoting such effective and influential activities, and we are convinced that he is worthy of the Distinguished Educational Practitioners Award.
