Complete English Session BS-6 Successfully
Held during 2014 IEICE Society Conference

Kyoko YAMORI, Dr.,
Asahi University,
Session Organizer, BS-6, IEICE
Communications Society

@The 2014 IEICE Society Conference was held at Tokushima University in Tokushima, on September 23-26, 2014, where three Societies of Engineering Sciences Society (ESS), Communications Society (CS), and Electronics Society (ES) joined. 18 Symposium Sessions and 65 General Sessions were held there. The number of registered participants reached about 4,300 in total. Since the overview of the Conference was reported and it briefly referred to the complete English Session BS-6 in the preceding issue of IEICE Global Plaza, here, as the Session Organizer, I would like to introduce you how successfully the Session was organized and provided to many participants in an easy environment.
@In the Conference, the Technical Committee on "Information Communication Management (ICM)" of IEICE Communications Society hosted the full English Session entitled gNetwork and Service Design, Control and Managementh as one of 18 Symposium Sessions which focused on special topics of advanced technologies. ICM has been handling this Session since 2004 so far, to promote the globalization of the IEICE by providing the international participants staying in Japan or joining from overseas, with more opportunities to present papers and discuss in English.
@36 papers in total were submitted to the Session this year. They were classified into 9 Sub-Sessions according to the topics and the sub-sessions were held every day during the Society Conference.
Many kinds of topics covering wireless/ad-hoc network, optical network, traffic analysis and QoS were discussed in those Sub-Sessions. Topics covering application layers such as information centric networks, application & services and data centers were also discussed. More than 25 persons in average joined Sub-Sessions every day and any Sub-Session was very active. A lot of questions came up by the participants in every presentation. Every presenter and audience enthusiastically discussed the ideas and exchanged opinions in the time slot assigned for questions and answers.
@Although most of papers were proposed by researchers from universities, 8 papers were proposed by researchers from industries. While most of speakers were international students studying in Japan and foreign researchers working in Japanese industries, 7 presenters were Japanese students and researchers. In this Symposium Session, ICM expects the open contribution from not only universities but also enterprises, and also talks by Japanese students and researchers as well as international students and foreign researchers. Discussions from various aspects are beneficial and indispensable for the advancement of their research phases.
@ICM provides the Best Paper Award to the outstanding paper presentation to encourage their continuous research activities. In the last ICM workshop held in March, ICM gave the Best Paper Award to the following papers selected out of the papers presented in the English Session of the former 2013 IEICE Society Conference:
(1) gAsymmetric RTS/CTS for Exposed Node Reduction in IEEE 802.11 Ad Hoc Networkh by Akihisa Matoba, Takashi Sasagawa, Masaki Hanada (Tokyo Univ. of Information Sciences), Hidehiro Kanemitsu (Waseda Univ.), Moo Wan Kim (Tokyo Univ. of Information Sciences)
(2) gPerformance Analysis of Comfort Route Navigation Providing High Communication Quality for Mobile Devicesh, Kenji Kanai, Jiro Katto (Waseda Univ.), Tutomu Murase (NEC)
@Now, ICM is selecting the Best Paper Award winners out of the papers presented in the English Session BS-6 this year, and it will be awarded to the winners in the upcoming ICM workshop in 2015 which will be held in Ishigaki City Hall, Okinawa, Japan on March 19-20, 2015. Your participation in the English Session hosted by ICM is welcome next year as well!

2014 International Workshop on Smart
Info-Media Systems in Asia (SISA 2014)
Was Held in Ho Chi Minh City

Bui Huu Phu, Prof., Dr.,
University of Technology, Vietnam National
University in Ho Chi Minh City
Technical Program Chair, SISA2014
Vice Chair/Conference, IEICE Vietnam Section

@International Workshop on Smart Info-Media Systems In Asia (SISA 2014) was successfully held at Hotel Majestic Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on October 8 -10, 2014. The Workshop was sponsored by IEICE, the Special Interest Groups of Audio Visual and Multimedia Information Processing (AVM) of Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), ECTI Association of Thailand, and Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City.
@The technical program of the current SISA series consists of two research fields — multimedia signal processing and communication systems. These two research areas have been rapidly advancing so far since Technical Committee on Smart Info-media System (SIS) of IEICE was established. Recent rapid development of personal communication systems, such as mobile computing and smartphones, has accelerated the integration of multimedia signal processing and communications and further requires more “intelligent” user interfaces now. Therefore, the technical program for SISA 2014 covers topics in all aspects of multimedia signal processing and communication systems from fundamental theory to practical implementation and emerging technologies. SISA plays the role of a connection for researchers and engineers from institutes, laboratories all over the world, also encourages young researchers in the field of these technologies.
@This year, the total number of paper submission reached more than 50, and approximately 50% of them were from Vietnam. Most of the participants joined the Workshop mainly from Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and they shared their research ideas, work experiences and expected potential cooperation in the field of Smart Info-Media Systems. During the Workshop, a seminar with the topic of gHow to Prepare and Write A Good Technical Paperh was provided for young lecturers and students in VNU University of Technology Ho Chi Minh City and many students were encouraged by the seminar.
@On the occasion, IEICE Vietnam Section introduced the scheme, organization and activities of IEICE to the Vietnamese lecturers and students, especially young audience, and encouraged them to join IEICEfs academic activities as the members. Following the success of SISA 2014, next event SISA 2015 was decided to be held in Chiba, Japan in October, 2015 (See it at http://www. ieice-sisa.org).
