intelligent autonomous vehicle enabling the best path finding, intelligent tracking and intelligent shift mapping. IEEK has a long history and taken initiatives in academic activities since the original institution Korean Electronic and Communication Society (KECS) was founded in 1945 and renamed IEEK in 1963. IEEK has a reputation for the oldest and most representative academic organization in Korea now. It has six Societies and publishes a monthly magazine, 2 international journals on “Semiconductor” and “Ubiquitous”, and 6 Society journals. The number of membership reached 28,875. He also introduced that IEEK signed a MOU of cooperation with IEICE in 1983 and organized many conferences in collaboration with IEICE in the field of the same electronics, information and communications. The participants exchanged opinions with the Prof.Jeon through active discussion. Prof.Seon Dae Kim of KAIST, President-Elect of IEEK also attended there and exchanged opinions with the participants.
Another English Session planned by the conference committee was TK-7 entitled “Affairs of Electronics and Communications in IEICE Overseas Section”. Prof.Jian Yang, the Representative of IEICE Beijing Section and Prof.Duk-Gyoo Kim, the Representative of IEICE Korea, Electronics Section gave speeches on “Recent Advances in Applications of Polarimetric SAR” and “Our Experience on Freshman Design Course in Electrical Engineering School”, respectively. Five Overseas Section Representatives presented their academic activities in the fiscal year between the two speeches. Prof.Yang introduced the trend of research activities in China in the field of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar technologies for land observation and remote sensing. On the other hand, Prof.Kim referred to the milestone of higher education in Korea and overview of Kyunpook National University, and introduced their unique “Freshman Design Course” including the students’ self developed creative robot design work, presentation and competition with given materials as a part of under graduate curriculum. Prof.Kim emphasized that this education system set up in 1999 has contributed to the higher education of engineering by developing the creativity, design ability and communication skill of students in a team work so far.
IEICE Communications Society organized two complete English Sessions with their leadership. One is Session BS-3 entitled “Engineering Network Technologies for Ambient Information Society”. The Session has been planned and managed by Technical Committee on Information Communication Management under the Communications Society since 2004 (See http://www.ieice.org/eng/global_plaza/2009/12.html). In the Session, 6 sub-sessions were held for the four days and 34 papers were presented by researchers or scholars of industries, universities and Government. About 45 members participated in each sub-session and had active discussions between speakers and participants.
Another Session BK-2 focused on procedures of international standardization activities for universities and industries was newly organized, and 5 guest speeches were given by outstanding leaders of international standardization in ITU-T, ETSI, ISOC, IEEE and TTC. The number of participants reached 40.
Next chance, 2010 IEICE Society Conference will be held at Osaka Prefecture University in Sakai, Japan on September 14-17.

Report on ISEC/IT/WBS Joint Technical Meeting in Nagano By Fumiaki Maehara, Assoc. Prof., Waseda University Secretary, Fundamentals on Information and Communication Sub-Society

　The ISEC/IT/WBS joint technical meeting was held by Fundamentals on Information and Communication Sub-Society at Shinshu University, Nagano, Japan on March 4th-5th in 2010. This sub-society consists of three technical committees (ISEC, IT, WBS) which share the same keywords of information and communication. This meeting was organized to provide an opportunity to promote the mutual academic exchange in these technical committees which have tended to independently act.
This technical meeting fortunately received 54 technical reports. These reports have been allocated into 22 technical sessions including 3 invited talks and 5 collaborative sessions. Active discussions were held in each session. In the invited talk, 3 invited speakers addressed the topics on cryptographic protocol, intelligent transport system, and signature code for optical CDMA.
The first invited speaker was Prof. Ohta who gave a speech on “Indifferentiability Theory and SHA-3 Project”. The second invited speaker was Prof. Habuchi who gave a speech on “On the Spread-Spectrum Techniques for Inter-Vehicle Communications”. The last invited speaker was Prof.Matsushima who gave a speech on “Codes with unique correlation property and their application”. Of course, these invited talks were well attended and discussions were interesting and stimulating to the participants.
The number of participants were more than 180 during this technical meeting. In addition, the committee members had a meeting to discuss the future plan on the Sub-Society with each other. Finally, I would like to thank to Prof. Nishiara who kindly hosted this meeting, the speakers, participants and student volunteers.

Call for Papers to ISADS 2011 IEICE Communications Society IEICE Information Systems Society

The 10th International Symposium on Autonomous Decentralized Systems (ISADS 2011) will be held in Tokyo and Hiroshima on March 23-27, in 2011. The aspects of primary concern is the next-generation systems based on adaptive and reusable technologies and applications. They are expected in the current dynamically changing socio-economic environments. They will have the characteristics of living systems composed of largely autonomous and decentralized components. A special event “The 10th ISADS Jubilee Forum” will be provided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ISADS. Important due dates are:
