Hideo Kuwahara

　The role of IECE is becoming more and more important while our social life is supported and progressing with ICT. I have been participating various activities and operations of the IEICE so far. I am recently participating activities of IEEE as well, and also in European Committee in optical communications area, and have chance to encounter various different opinions. With these experiences I will support activities and innovations in the IEICE, including checking with global viewpoints.
　He received BS in 1972, MS in 1974 and PhD in 1984 in Electronics Engineering all from University of Tokyo. He has engaged in R&D in optical communications field in Fujitsu since 1974. After assignment in a subsidiary in USA for 2000-3, he served Board Member of Fujitsu Labs Ltd (2004-6), and is a Fellow of Fujitsu Labs Ltd from 2006. IEICE activities: Fellow, Chair of Technical Committee on Optical Communication Systems, Director of International Coordination and Publicity, Director of Finance, Council member, Strategic Committee member, and received Achievement Award (1998). IEEE activities: Fellow, Photonics Society President (2012-13), Fellow Committee (2013). Others: Chair of OSA/IEEE CLEO PacificRim Steering Committee, OITDA (Optoelectronics Industry and Technology Development Association) Sakurai Memorial Award (1990)
