General Information of HUT


 The Hanoi University of Technology (HUT) was established in 1956, the first national university of technology in Vietnam. Since then, it has been an institution for training of engineers and for scientific research for almost all industrial branches of the country. In its first year, it had a teaching staff of 45, some of whom had been trained in foreign technical colleges. The remaining instructors, who had graduated from short term courses in a pedagogic college, were teachers of mathematics, physics and chemistry. The number of student enrolments was 900.
At its outset, the University had four faculties : Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mining Metallurgical Engineering. To date, approximately 35,000 engineers, and several hundred Ph.D graduates have been trained at HUT. They have made an important contribution to developing industry, education, science, and the economy of the country.
At present, the teaching staff of the university includes 940 (with a total of 1,647 university employees). About 50% of them are Doctors and Professors.
At HUT, there are currently 22,000 undergraduate students, and more than 500 postgraduate students and researchers for Ph.D in 27 different specializations. HUT is located in the southern section of Hanoi, close to the Giai Phong and Dai Co Viet crossroads. It has an area of 35 hectares, which house the academic buildings, student dormitories and staff accommodation.
