近年のIoT・AI技術の発展が様々な社会システムのリアルタイム最適化制御を可能にすることで、我々の日常生活はもとより産業界における各種業務フローが日々大きく変わりつつあります。情報通信技術が過去とは格段に違うインパクトを社会に与える時代において、技術進化の方向性を適切に定義かつ着実に進捗させるためには、基礎理論と産業応用を担当する学・産を開発の初期段階から密接に連携させていくことが大切です。情報通信技術全般にわたって幅広く活動する本会は、連携活動の基盤として最適なポジションにあるはずです。またAIにおける倫理課題が社会で顕在化する中、様々な立場の人たちの間で技術が与える影響について共通認識を醸成することは、技術開発そのものと並ぶ極めて重要な論点であり、ここでも本会は大きな貢献ができると考えます。調査理事として、個々の会員サービスを通した出会いの演出にとどまらず、社会への影響をも念頭において、本会が社会変革においてより大きな役割を果たせるように微力を尽くします。

［プロフィール］

1993年名古屋大学大学院工学研究科電子情報専攻博士課程終了。同年NECに入社し、デジタル放送方式の研究開発に従事。その後メディア認識、ICTシステムアーキテクチャ、データマイニング、NWアークテクチャ、自然言語処理と活動を広げ、データサイエンス研究所所長等を歴任。その後新規事業開発に転じ、現在エンタープライズビジネスユニット理事。1990年代よりMPEG/JPEGの名前で知られるメディア信号処理標準化に携わり、技術貢献に加え国際標準化会議運営、関連国内規格制定で多くの役職に従事。

［Statement］

Recent technical innovation on IoT and AI enables real-time and dynamic optimization of various social system and it drastically change our daily life as well as established work flow in industry. It means that the future direction of technical innovation has bigger impact on society than before, and therefore, deeper communication between academia and industry is really important. As a leading technical community on ICT area, IEICE can offer the best opportunities to meet different views and to share common understanding on technical and ethical aspects. As a Director, I would like to expand the role of IEICE to contribute for better social innovation.

［Biography］

Akio Yamada received his Ph.D. in electronic and information engineering from Nagoya University and joined Central Research Laboratories of NEC Corporation in 1993. He started his research career in digital media distribution system and expand it to media content recognition, ICT system architecture and knowledge discovery science. After serving several years for R&D management as General Manager of Data Science Research Laboratories, he is now Vice President of Enterprise Business Unit and has a responsibility on business development based on advanced ICT technologies. He has also contributed to many international standards in media content distribution area, known as MPEG and JPEG, for over 20 years and received a lot of awards.
