長い間オンライン開催に限定されてきた研究集会は、次第に従来からの対面の開催も可能になりました。今後は色々なスタイルで参加者の多様な要望に応える柔軟な研究会・大会・国際会議の運営が重要です。一方、学術研究の評価は、近年は「トップコンファレンス」への採否という一発勝負の結果のみが研究の価値を決定づけるかのような風潮も強くなっていますが、本来、研究は多様な観点から評価や議論が行われた結果、科学技術の進歩に貢献することでその価値が決まるものです。私は、学会が改めて原点に立ち戻り、最近の新しい流れの良いところは残しつつ、会員の求める多様な価値観を見失わないような研究成果の共有とそれに対する評価を推進できるような仕組みづくりに貢献したいと思います。その結果として、今後の時代を担う若い研究者や技術者が国内外で活躍する足掛かりを作ったり、経験豊かなシニア世代が更に新たな学び・発見を獲得したりすることができる場としての学会の機能を強化したいと思っています。
1992年慶大院理工学研究科博士課程電気工学専攻修了。博士（工学）。同年より慶大理工学部助手、専任講師、助教授を経て2006年より教授。2020年より情報工学科主任教授。1997~99年 Carnegie Mellon University訪問研究員。コンピュータビジョンとそのVR/MR提示等への応用に関する研究に従事。ISS副会長（技術会議担当）、パターン認識メディア理解（PRMU）研究専門委員会幹事、副委員長を歴任。平成26年ISS活動功労賞。FIT2017プログラム委員長、FIT2022現地実行委員長。映像情報メディア学会副会長（2020~2021年度）、国際会議では、MVA Organization Chair、 ISMAR Steering Committee、ACCV2014 Program Co-Chair、ISMAR2015 General Co-Chair、EuroVR2020 Scientific Program Chair等を務めた。本会フェロー、日本バーチャルリアリティ学会フェロー。IEEEシニアメンバ、情報処理学会シニアメンバ。
Although meetings for research presentations, which have long been limited to online conferences, have gradually become possible to hold traditional face-to-face meetings, I believe that flexible management of research meetings, conventions, and international conferences that meet the diverse needs of participants in a variety of styles is desired. On the other hand, in recent years, there has been a strong trend to evaluate academic research as if the value of research is determined only by the result of a one-shot competition, i.e., acceptance or rejection by the "Top Conferences”. I would like to contribute to the creation of a system that enables the academic society to go back to the basics and promote the sharing and evaluation of research results without losing sight of the diverse values sought by its members while retaining the positive aspects of the recent new trends. As a result, I hope to strengthen the function of academic society as a place where young researchers and engineers, who will lead the future generation, can gain a foothold to play an active role in Japan and abroad, and experienced seniors can further learn and discover new things.
Hideo Saito received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Keio University, Japan, in 1992. Since then, he has been in the Faculty of Science and Technology, at Keio University, where he has been a full professor since 2006. From 1997 to 1999, he joined Carnegie Mellon University as a visiting researcher. His recent activities for academic conferences include being the MVA Organization Chair, ISMAR Steering Committee, ACCV2014 Program Co-Chair, ISMAR2015 General Co-Chair, and EuroVR2020 Scientific Program Chair. His research interests include computer vision and pattern recognition, and their applications to augmented reality, virtual reality, and human robotics interaction. He is a Fellow of IEICE, a Fellow of the Virtual Reality Society of Japan (VRSJ), and a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Senior Member of IPSJ.
