[Statement]

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the mainstream of conferences and technical meetings are now held online. Although the number of participants has increased due to the strength of the online format, which allows participants to join from anywhere, the opportunities for chatting during breaks and after presentations, which are unique to the in-person format, have been lost, and the opportunities for interaction among society members seem to have decreased. I believe that this is a great loss of opportunity, especially for ESS that deals with interdisciplinary fields. I would like to consider with the ESS members new styles of the technical meetings and workshops for the post-corona era. There is also an urgent need to revitalize Japanese and English journals. I would like to think about strategies to improve the impact factor and make the journal attractive enough to be submitted from all over the world. I would like to contribute to the development of the ESS into a more attractive society and to provide further services to the ESS members.
