TJMW will be hosting a Student Design Competition (SDC). The main objective of this event is to encourage students to have interests in the microwave engineering and to experience challenges in practical hardware designs and measurements. Competitors are required to design, construct, and measure prototype passive circuits for predetermined design requirements.

Guidelines

  1. Criteria

Competitors are students only, and can participate in individual or team (up to 3 students).

  2. Important notes

Upon participation in the competition, each competitor take necessary actions for intellectual property rights such as patents and the export controls.

  3. Details for the submission

To register, please send an e-mail with necessary information toSuramate Chalermwisutkul (suramate.c.ce@tggs-bangkok.org) and Tadashi Kawai (kawai@eng.u-hyogo.ac.jp), and attach a copy of your student identity card or a confirmation, signed by your responsible professor. The deadline for registration is May 16th, 2017.

    E-mail format:

  4. Details of the competition
    1. Competitors are required to design and construct prototype passive circuits for predetermined design requirements before the competition held (June 14th, 2017).
    2. During the competition, competitors will measure circuit performances by themselves. Required test equipment for the measurement will be prepared by Keysight Technologies.
  5. Prize

For the competition, the winner, as judged by the technical committee (based on the criteria published on the website of the conference), will be recognized at the award ceremony, and will receive the TJMW2017 Student Design Prize.

  6. Program at a glance
    • June 14th, 2017 15:00 - 17:30 (TBD) Student Design Competition.
    • June 14th, 2017 17:30 - 20:00 (TBD) Award ceremony.

Design requirements

  1. Circuit type

    Mismatch Lines (2 types)

  2. Design requirements (Modified on Jun. 5th, Updated on Jun. 1st, Modified on May 22th)

    Please see the PDF file.

  3. Manufacturing conditions
    1. One-sided or double-sided printed circuit board (PCB) is used. There is no restriction on the materials for PCB. For information, FR4, FR1, CEM1 are available in market and easy to purchase. http://www.warapcb.com/support_material.php.
    2. Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors, and all active components cannot be used.
    3. External case cannot be used.
    4. SMA mm-unit Female connectors are used.
  4. Design requirement evaluation criteria (TBD)

The top 3 minimum value of measured data of the sum of the two mismatch lines will win the prize.
