| Friends, as you might have already known, with great regret, we have to announce the sudden death of Emeritus Professor Risaburo Sato of Tohoku University. He passed away on April 12, 2011 at the age of 89. We shall always remember him, not only as an eminent scientist but also as the great father who built the foundations of EMC research organization both in IEICE and IEEJ in 1977. Dear Colleagues It is with great sorrow that Emeritus Prefessor Dr. Risabro Sato, who passed away on 12 April 2011 at Sendai, Miyagiken, Japan. Prof. Risabro Sato (Emeritus Professor of Tohoku University) was just pioneer of Japanese EMC Engineering and he developed the EMC Work shop in the IEICE (EMCJ) of Japan in 1973 and he jointed to IEEE EMC Society in 1979. He had been buit up the Tokyo Chapter of IEEE EMC Society in 1980 which this Chapter was the first EMC Society Chapter established at the out side of United States. Prof. Sato elected to EMC Society BoD member from 1984-1988, and he received “IEEE EMC S “Stoddard Award in 2002. And he was the first Chapter Chair of Sendai Chapter in 2001. Sendai area is under very severe conditions of after the huge earthqake of Magnitude 9.0 and following so many large after shocks. More Detailed information is not obtained now. Takeo, I am very sorry to hear this sad news. Professor Sato was a very nice man and one of the first leaders of our EMC community. I remember seeing him at many EMC conferences over the years, including several times at our IEEE EMC Symposium. When you have more information, Please let us know.
