* Tutorial Workshop at Bangkok on August 7, 2012 [#zb79cf58]

The day before TJMW2012 ([[2012 Thailand-Japan Micro Wave:http://www.ieice.org/~mw/TJMW2012]]), AP tutorial workshop, entitled "Fundamentals of antenna measurement technique", will be held at the same venue. It is sponsored and organized by the technical committee on antennas and propagation, IEICE, Japan.

** Date & Time [#b7469b9a]
9:30am to 12:00am (noon) on August 7, 2012.

** Venue [#re66af2d]
Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand

** Title [#c92a6061]
Fundamentals of antenna measurement technique

** Speaker [#p0b4c426]
Dr. Nozomu Ishii&br;
Niigata University, Japan

** Abstract [#h37505a4]

With the advent of the vector network analyzer, the accuracy of measuring the input impedance of small antennas has been improved. However, the characteristics of small antennas are still sensitive to the surrounding environment, it is necessary to pay sufficient attention to the measurement even if the performance of the instrument were improved. In this tutorial workshop, first, the importance of understanding the basics required in the measurement of the small antennas, identifying the error factors and the uncertainty are described. Second, the precautions on the handling of the cables and connectors that are used from the VHF/UHF band to the microwave band are enumerated. The measurement techniques of the input impedance of the antenna using a vector network analyzer, including the electrical length compensation, are overviewed. Finally, we touch on the measurement of the radiation pattern of the antenna and the corresponding error factors.
