Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, the fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) in higher frequency bands has been extensively studied. Massive MIMO is one of the promising technologies to improve spectral efficiency. The authors have been engaged on the research subject: "Wideband massive MIMO and beam control technologies for high SHF bands" for "The research and development project for realization of the fifth-generation mobile communications system - High Data Rate and Low-Power-Consumption Radio Access Technologies with Ultra Higher-Frequency-Band and Wider-Bandwidth Massive MIMO -" commissioned by The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan. In this report, the authors introduce the latest outcomes of our 5G R&D activities for 28GHz band: massive-element antenna RF module equipment, wideband modem equipment for high speed transmission, multi-beam spatial multiplexing testbed with hybrid beamforming configuration incorporating these R&D products, and the initial results of indoor experimental verification. It is particularly worth noting that data rate of 25.5Gbps has been achieved over the 28GHz-band 16x16 single-user massive MIMO prototype system using bandwidth of 500MHz and 16 spatial beams from a total of 4,096 (4K) antenna elements.
