The Wi-SUN has been introducing to the electricity and gas smart metering systems, but the introduction of the Wi-SUN to the water meters which are installed under the ground is in study state. Although authors have evaluated the transmission characteristics of the IEEE 802.15.4g based system in a certain residential area, typical transmission characteristics are required in order to introduce the Wi-SUN to the water smart metering systems. This report evaluates the transmission characteristics of the IEEE 802.15.4g based systems in open space for water smart metering. The movement measurement results show that the average RSSI when the sender is installed into the meter box declines from about 14 dB to 28 dB than the case that the sender is installed at the 1.20 m height. Also, this report evaluates the influence of the cover material of the meter box on radio wave propagation by fixed-point measurement. The influence using plastic cover is small, but the propagation characteristic changes and the maximum difference of the average RSSI from the measurement without any cover is about 19 dB when the plastic cover which a metal plate is attached or the cast iron cover is used. |
