The present study investigates the efficiency of the scales around tactile maps. own that the scales around tactile maps and division of tactile maps can shorten the search time for tactile symbols on the maps. But the optimal number of divisions that shortens the search time the most has not been found. We conducted an experiment in which tactile maps with five different numbers of divisions were presented to eleven blind participants. The search times for tactile targets on the maps were measured and a movie that recorded searching behavior was analyzed. The results show that the search time became shorter as the number of divisions increases, but there were no significant differences among the numbers of divisions. |
