Information Diffusion Model for Analyzing Temporal Variation of Contents Posted to SNSs

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) When an impressive event occurs in the real world, several contents related to the event are posted to the SNSs; the popularity of the contents rapidly grows and, after a peak, it usually fades over time. In this paper, we explain this temporal variation of contents in the SNSs by using the SIR model, which is often used as a mathematical model of infectious diseases. We find that the temporal variation of the number of contents posted to the SNSs largely depends on the network structure, for example, the degree of the source node of the content. We also find that the simulation results are very consistent with the analytical results obtained by the assumption that the states of neighbor nodes are not independent but strongly correlated.
