[Invited Lecture] Optimum Directivity of MIMO Base Station Considering Blocking Objects in Street Cell Model

(in English) In next generation mobile communication system, street cells are formed by using an antenna of a base station located at a low height on a street. MIMO system is one of the candidate techniques for large capacity wireless transmission in street cell. This paper investigates the channel capacity of MIMO base station antenna considering blocking objects in line-of- sight street cell environment and clarified the optimum directivity of MIMO base station antenna. It is shown that the optimum beam width in the horizontal plane is depends on the road width and distance from the base station, and the optimum beam width in the horizontal plane considering blocking objects is narrower than it without blocking objects . Moreover, it is found that the channel capacity is increased by setting the base station that is higher than the blocking objects.
