Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The first phase of standardization of 5G cellular systems covering bands up to 52.6 GHz are is now underway and expected to be completed by end of 2017. The next phase of 3GPP standardization will cover bands up to 100 GHz and will start around 3rd quarter of 2018. Further, regulatory bodies and ITU are also considering bands above 52.6 GHz for licensing namely 70/80 GHz because of the worldwide availability of these bands and potential for large bandwidth support. In this presentation, we investigate the impact on system performance of several key system design aspects including Massive MIMO of 5GNR at sub 6GHz and at low and high mmWave bands. We briefly describe the air-interface details including numerology, various physical channels and channel coding of 5GNR followed by 5GNR Massive MIMO technology. We show that there is a definite advantage of 5GNR over LTE-A at sub-6GHz and also there is marginal difference in performance when the antenna aperture is kept constant across mmWave frequencies. This is an important finding and shows that high mmWave bands are viable and can support similar cell size as low mmWave bands.
