[Invited Lecture] Prototyping of 28 GHz Digital Active Antenna System using GaN HEMT Amplifiers and 1-bit Transceivers for 5G Long-range Base Station Applications

(in English) This paper reports the design and performance of a 28GHz Digital Active Antenna System(AAS) prototype for 5G long-range base station application. AAS accommodates high power 0.15 um GaN HEMT amplifiers and 480 elements array antenna for long-range application, and the digital beam-forming for simultaneous multi-beams and flexibility. The new architecture is proposed and discussed for realizing mm-Wave antenna element interval and thermal management. And 1-bit transmitters and 1-bit receivers are introduced for smaller size and less power consumption of multiple data convertors in digital beam-forming. The average EIRP is 68dBm and theoretical maximum spectrum efficiency is 32 bps/Hz.
