Recently, critical accidents in underground infrastructure have occurred frequently. Remote monitoring is one of key technologies for infrastructure maintenance mechanisms to prevent such accidents effectively. Data collection from sensors placed in the underground infrastructure is essential for remote monitoring. In Japan, 920 MHz band wireless communication has received an attention for data collection from sensors due to its low cost and wide coverage. However, since structure of underground infrastructures is generally diversity and complicated, the
effectiveness of 920 MHz wireless communication for underground infrastructure monitoring should be confirmed. In this work, as the conduction of experiments using various underground infrastructures is actually difficult, we conducted only one experiment using specific underground infrastructure. In parallel, we simulated the infrastructure by using RapLab simulator and then compared the communication performance between them to show the validation of the simulations. As results of regression analysis in terms of the RSSIs from experiments and simulations, we confirmed that there is high correlation between them. Therefore, we can remark that effectiveness of 920 MHz band wireless communication in various environment can be confirmed through simulations. |
