[Tutorial Lecture] Past and Present Techniques of Radio Source Localization Using Array Antenna

(in English) This paper explains the past and present typical methods for localization of multiple near-field sources using array antennas. The methods are classified into the parameter-search type and non-search type, and their characteristics are demonstrated by computer simulation. As the parameter-search type, Beamformer, Capon method, and MUSIC are explained from the principles. As the non-search type, on the other hand, we focus on the near-field DOA-Matrix method which is ESPRIT-like method. In addition, the improved methods with spatial smoothing processing and SAGE algorithm are shown in this paper. This paper also refers to the correlation between multiple near-field sources.
