Bandwidth Enlargement Maintaining Low HPBW Variation in Dual Band Reflector Backed Dipole Antenna Composed of Folded FSR

(in English) Multi-band antennas have been popularly used as base station antennas for mobile communication systems. We have proposed to apply folded frequency selective reflector (FSR) to a reflector backed dipole antenna to configure a dual band sector antenna operating in 2GHz/3.5GHz bands. The purpose of this report is to enlarge the bandwidth maintaining the low HPBW characteristics in 3.5GHz. To achieve this, we first investigate the part of the folded FSR which mainly influences on the HPBW variation. Based on the result, it is shown that the effectiveness of increasing the number of elements in the flat part of the folded FSR in obtaining stable HPBW characteristics. Finally, the configuration adding a director in front of the 3.5GHz dipole element is proposed to suppress the sidelobe appearing in the backward direction in the previous configuration.
