Due to outsourcing of numerous stages of the IC manufacturing process in different foundries, security risks such as hardware Trojans become a potential threat. In this work, we propose an EPA (Equal-Power self-Authentication) technique, which magnifies detection sensitivity and does not rely on a golden IC. To magnify detection sensitivity against process variations and realize self-authentication, two small segments in the same circuit are activated and their powers are compared. We also propose a clock tree based clock gating for segmentation that can be accomplished by ECO with a minimum layout impact. We evaluate our approach on ISCAS89 and ITC benchmark and AES circuits for both combinational and sequential type Trojans. Experimental results show that our approach can effectively detect Trojan with ratios to circuit area as low as 0.023%. |
