Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) One potential approach to reduce the energy consumptionof networks is base stations (BSs) ON/OFF switching, in which BSs are able to switch to energy-saving modes in light traffic load conditions. In this paper, we investigate the
impact of the number of energy-saving modes on improving the energy efficiency in heterogeneous networks. We use a learning algorithm to select the BSs? operation modes in a distributed manner. Simulation results show that with increasing the number of modes, energy consumption and load decrease. However, by increasing the number of modes beyond a certain point, our mechanism does not provide sufficient gains.
