A Study on Rank Adaptation Based on Increase in Channel Capacity

(in English) MIMO-OFDM(Multiple Input Multiple Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system can improve the channel capacity by transmitting some streams independently from multiple transmitter antennas. However, it is difficult for a receiver to decode symbols when the rank of a MIMO channel is less than the number of transmitted antennas. Thus, rank adaptation has been proposed to control the number of streams in accordance with propagation environments. In conventional rank adaptation the variation in the propagation environment degrades the performance of controlling the number of streams. Therefore, this paper proposes the rank adaptation based on the increase ratio of channel capacity.
