A small circularly polarized spiral antenna was developed as a transmission/reception antenna in UWB radar systems for land-mine detection and nondestructive inspection of buildings. This small antenna has 4.6 x 4.6 cm aperture size and 6.1 cm height. The VSWR is less than 2 in the frequencies more than 2.15 GHz. In addition, radar experiment demonstrates that using a small spiral antenna backed by a cavity filled with EM absorber, radar signals can be clearly received in the frequency range of 3 GHz to 17 GHz. Moreover, 2 types of virtual land-mines in a sand pit can be detected by the radar system using this spiral antenna in the frequency range of 50 MHz to 5 GHz. |
