Investigation of colonoscope navigation system based on haustral fold detection method

(in English) In this paper, we propose an estimation method of a colonoscope tip position in the colon by using a CT volume and colonoscopic images. Firstly, we extract haustral folds from colonoscopic images and track haustral folds by making correspondences between haustral fold of previous and current images. We obtain haustral folds enhancement images by using magnitudes of illumination gradients of haustral folds. Then, haustral folds are obtained by searching ridge points from the enhancement images. We also extract haustral folds from a CT volume and estimate a colonoscope tip position by establishing a correspondence between haustral folds extracted from colonoscopic images and haustral folds extracted from the CT volume. We applied the proposed method to a colon phantom and evaluated detection accuracies of haustral folds. The experimental results showed that the average detection rate was 77.3 %. Also, the proposed method could estimate a colonoscope tip position.
