Temperature estimation during hyperthermia treatments with mean blood flow and inside artery and vein

(in English) This paper describes heating properties of a resonant cavity applicator for heating brain tumors calculated by a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with blood perfusion inside blood vessels and mean blood flow rate. The blood flow rate is needed for calculating the temperature distribution during hyperthermia treatments. In previous study, the mean rate of blood flow through human tissue is used in the conventional method with Finite Element Method (FEM). However, the accuracy of the calculated temperature distribution around a thick vessel was not so high with this calculating method. In this study, temperature distributions around the artery and vein calculated by the CFD with mean blood flow rate during hyperthermia treatments with the cavity applicator are discussed. First, we described our heating method for treating deep brain tumors. Second, we calculated temperature distributions with the bio-heat transfer equation and heat-flow equation. From these results, we showed the effectiveness of this new calculating method for estimating the cooling effects of blood perfusion inside artery and vein with mean blood flow rate.
