Segmentation of Blood Vessels in Retinal Fundus Images using Morphology Filter Bank and Artificial Neural Network

(in English) We propose a method for segmentation of blood vessels in retinal fundus images. In this method, we use a morphology filter bank for extracting line patterns which are the initial candidates of blood vessels. An artificial neural network (ANN) is subsequently employed for removing false positives and segmenting blood vessels in the output image obtained by the morphology filter bank. Morphology filter bank is characterized by the good reproducibility of the shapes of extracted patterns. We evaluated our method using training images and test images of DRIVE database. The result indicated that accuracy was 0.9417.
