[Invited Lecture] Design of Time Modulated Array Considering Hardware Restrictions

(in English) A low side lobe level pattern in a phased array antenna is desired for the radar systems. The phase shifter control type time modulated array antenna has been studied to achieve low side lobe pattern at low cost. Desired pattern can be accomplished in a time average procedure by temporally controlling of each element phase. In conventional work, this technique has been applied to idealized array antenna, and the Taylor distribution is employed as reference. From a practical point of view, this paper take into account the application for the actual phased array antenna which is having phase quantization of the phase shifters and difference amplitude between each element. In this paper, it is proposed that the excitation distribution design of time modulated array antenna considering the above restrictions. The proposed technique is based on the combinational optimization of the element amplitude values which is determined by the restrictions. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is demonstrated by computer simulation.
